Propofol Dosage Analysis - IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital

I partnered with the Director of Pharmacy Services and the Critical Care Research Team at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital to investigate why ICU propofol infusion rates at this hospital are significantly higher than rates across the broader IU Health system. Using electronic medical record data, I evaluated variables regarding patient demographics, co-administered sedatives, and high-dose propofol patterns to uncover the clinical and operational factors driving this variation. This work directly informs clinical decision-making, contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and supports efforts to align ICU sedation with best-practice guidelines to ultimately enhance patient safety and care consistency across the health system. The accompanying R code includes dataset creation, exploratory data analysis, variable selection, modeling (GLM), and interaction assessment.
